Using Internet Graphics in a Microsoft® Office Document


Finding Graphics on the Internet

Google http://www.google.com/ Click on the Images tab, then search for your keyword(s). If you get irrelevant images, add more keywords to refine your search. Click on the image to see the page it came from before writing your citation.

Yahooligans http://www.yahooligans.com Search for "dog pictures" or whatever kind of pictures you’re looking for. Since this is an index, you can find pictures this way.

Awesome Clipart for Kids http://www.awesomeclipartforkids.com/ Scroll down and look through the index to see if any of these categories might have what you’re looking for.

Free Internet Graphics and Clipart http://www.internetclipart.com/contents.htm Scroll down and look through the index to see if any of these categories might have what you’re looking for.

Microsoft® Design Gallery Live http://dgl.microsoft.com/ You must have a licensed Microsoft® Office product on your computer to use this site. If you use it at home, make sure your parents read the EULA License before you click Accept.

Downloading Graphics from the Internet

  1. When you find a graphic you like (that you are allowed to use), place the cursor over it and right-click to see the menu.
  2. Click on Save image as…
  3. Next to the box labeled Save in, click the drop-down arrow to show the drives.
  4. Click on Desktop.
  5. Either use the filename that is given, or give it a new filename.
  6. Click Save.
  7. Remember to note where you got each image so you can give credit . Your citation needs to be in Web page format. The search engine (Google, Yahoo, etc.) will not appear anywhere in your citation.
Using Your Graphic in a Microsoft® Office Document
  1. Open the document into which you want to insert the graphic.
  2. From the top menu bar, click the Insert menu, then click Picture .
  3. Choose From File….
  4. Next to the box labeled Save in, click the drop-down arrow to show the drives.
  5. Click on Desktop.
  6. Click on the graphic you want to use. A preview picture should show up.
  7. Click Insert. Your graphic will appear close to your cursor in your document.
  8. Right-click on the graphic and click Show Picture Toolbar to format the graphic.
  9. You might need to click on Text Wrapping, then click on Edit Wrap Points.

Animal Graphics

National Geographic http://www.nationalgeographic.org/ Search this site for pictures of animals using the Search box on the first page, or click "Animals and Nature" in the menu to the left. On that page, click the drop-down menu that says "Animal Profiles" and choose an animal.

AKC Dog Breeds http://www.akc.org/breeds/recbreeds/index.cfm The American Kennel Club has pictures of dog breeds on this site. Click on one of the breed types in the menu to the left, then choose a breed.

ACFA Cat Breeds http://www.acfacat.com/breeds/catbreeds.html Ths American Cat Fanciers' Association shows cat breeds on their site.
